Business Leaders, Is Christ in Your Boardroom? Recently, in the spirit of the Legatus mission, the thought provoking message that follows was sent to the membership of the St. Louis Chapter by Chapter President, Mr. Leo MacDonald. Presented here with the author's permission, it is entitled, "Christ in the Boardroom."

Reflecting on the past year's performance of our Legatus Chapter the thought comes to mind, why not ask your fellow members if in their opinion we have done all in our power to carry out our commitment to act as Ambassadors for Christ? I personally feel that I have benefited greatly by my association with you all and the lessons learned from the speakers at our monthly meetings. But is there more that can be done in our business place with little or no monetary expenditure and a modicum of time committed? I m really asking each of you to consider various ways each of us can become better Christian Ambassadors. Are we doing what we can in our daily lives to bring the Spirit of Christ into our boardrooms? Another way of putting it might be: As ambassadors, are we creating in our businesses the very awareness of what we seek to archive by attending Legatus functions? Are we actively stimulating a curiosity in our Catholic and non-Catholic business associates the importance that the Almighty CEO plays in the operation of our respective ventures? What sorts of things come to mind? How about some of these: Do we pray that our fellow Legatus Family Members be happy, successful, discerning and compassionate as they resolve the myriad of business problems they face daily? Do we acknowledge in our relationships the importance that God plays in our everyday life experiences? Do we thank spouses and associates for their great support in all of our endeavors? Do we start some or any of our meetings acknowledging how important our Creator is in our daily operations? Do we take time out to join with our fellow employees and give thanks to God when that big order comes in or deal closes? Do we place ethical business practice enhancement on our annual corporate performance review agenda? Do we write some note of sorrow when an employee suffers the loss of a loved one or some other adverse happening occurs? Do we pick up the phone and console someone in pain? When granting the year-end bonus, do we acknowledge that Christ has blessed and guided us in our business operations and concurrently encourage our employees to suggest in what manner our ethical standard might be improved? What small acts of humility do we perform and offer up as praise for our Christ? Do we use postal stamps and or cards depicting some seasonal religious scene at Easter, Christmas, etc.? Do we create an awareness in some manner that we care for our employees as Christ cares for us? In what ways can we as Apostles bring CHRIST into our businesses?
